Women's Health
The Planned Parenthood of Australia Group was started by Dr David Grundmann in 1983, when abortion services for women in Australia were extremely limited and virtually non existent in Queensland. Dr Grundmann began providing abortion services with Dr Bertram Wainer in Melbourne in 1976. He has devoted his entire medical career to this very special area of health care and is a former President of ISAD (The International Society of Abortion Doctors).
At that time the only clinic in Queensland was in Brisbane . Women living in country areas had to go to Brisbane if they wanted to have a termination of pregnancy. This meant that only wealthy women, who could afford to travel, or women living in the local Brisbane area could obtain an abortion, and poor women in remote areas were severely disadvantaged.
The first Planned Parenthood of Australia clinic was started in Townsville in North Queensland in April 1983. Townsville is approximately as far north of Brisbane as Melbourne is south. We started in a small building close to the centre of Townsville, the main hospital train and bus routes. Almost immediately we were busy with women coming to the clinic from as far away as Papua New Guinea, Weipa and Mt. Isa, knowing they could talk to a counsellor and have a safe abortion in a day surgery environment for an affordable fee. Telephone Number Townsville 07 47725533

In 1990 we opened the Brisbane Campbell Street Surgicentre, which also specialises in the mid trimester abortions. This clinic sees patients from as far away as New Zealand, Perth and Melbourne. Telephone Number Brisbane 07 3257 1205
In 1994 we opened the Newcastle clinic in N.S.W. The Lambton Rd Day Surgery was the first privately owned abortion facility in Australia to gain licensing and accreditation with the Australian Council of Health Care Standards. Telephone Number Newcastle 02 4957 5669

Dr Grundmann, the Medical Director of the PPA Day Surgeries, who has over 35 years experience in operating, provides this specialised service together in consultation with referring
Medical and health professionals. Women from outside Australia and all over Australia can be assured that the trained staff and doctors are sympathetic, understanding, and very professional in being able to provide this service.
All Planned Parenthood of Australia clinics are involved with studies related to the provision of abortion care as well as developing various training programs for Doctors, Medical students and Nurses. Dr. David Grundmann operates at all sites and has been providing abortion care and services since 1976. He is the President of the Abortion Providers Federation of Australia which is an organisation that represents abortion providers in Australia and is dedicated to the provision of safe, legal, affordable abortion care for all Australian women.
Men's Health
The Planned Parenthood of Australia Group was has provided vasectomies since 1990 in Brisbane at Campbell Street Surgicentre. More so today, we have found that men are feeling empowered in that they too can contribute to a decision being made about their contraception and many are choosing to have a vasectomy. It immediately relieves the risks associated with other forms of female contraception.
We have realised this within our group of day surgeries, and have therefore extended our services in 2009 in providing the procedure on one day a week in Brisbane at Campbell Street Surgicentre to accommodate the client’s needs, as well as including the vasectomy service at our Southport Surgicentre on the Gold Coast in 2001, in Rockhampton at our Rockhampton Surgicentre in 2008 and our Newcastle clinic, Lambton Road Day Surgery in 2007. All facilities are modern and since our l icensing in 2001 we have provided quality care to our patients delivered through a Quality Management System which identifies the philosophy behind the system:

All procedures are done in a sterile Theatre environment, a Sedationist is provided, and the duration of the whole experience is approximately one and half hours.
